<\/i><\/span>Last entry 30 minutes before closing time.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>The museum<\/h2><\/div>The Giuseppe Ugonia Museum of Brisighella, opened in October 1994 inside the nineteenth-century Palazzo della Pretura, Piazza Marconi, collects more than four hundred art works, including lithographs, engravings and watercolours<\/strong>, which were donated by his wife, Elena Mignini Ugonia, in 1984, with archive of the artist\u2019s memories. A selection of the most important works is exhibited here. Others are also preserved in the National Prints Cabinet in Rome and in the Prints and Drawings Cabinet of the Uffizi Galleries in Florence and are present in many public and private collections. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>Giuseppe Ugonia<\/h2><\/div>Giuseppe Ugonia (Faenza, 1881 \u2013 Brisighella, 1944<\/strong>), whose parents were from Brisighella, attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Faenza, studying drawing and lithography. Friend and fellow student of Domenico Baccarini, Ugonia became part of his so-called \u201ccenacle\u201d, together with other peers destined like him for careers at a national level between the two wars. In 1908 he obtained a diploma from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna.
\nIn 1909 he moved to Brisighella, where he took on the role of teacher at the local drawing school and remained throughout his life. <\/p>\nHis interests are already directed towards the lithographic technique (image printing technique based on the use of a limestone as a flat matrix),
\n in which he will become a master recognized at European level. In 1912 he was contacted by the Senefelder Club in London which the following year invited him to the Brighton exhibition dedicated to original modern lithography.
\n In 1914 he obtained the Gold Medal at the International Book Exhibition in Dresden, he participated for the first time in the Venice Biennale and was highlighted by the magazine \u201cThe Studio\u201d. <\/p>\n
After the First World War Ugonia returned to Brisighella and was already an established artist<\/strong>, who partecipated at the main exhibitions of the period. In the 1930s he continued to obtain successes, invitations and mentions: in 1934 he was invited again by the Senefelder Club of London to exhibit at the International Lithography Exhibition and in 1935 he exhibited in Buenos Aires and Ottawa.
\n His distilled lithographic production intersects with a vast engraving activity<\/strong> which finds its opportunities in the life of the small community of Brisighella, for example greeting cards, invitations and menus for weddings and ceremonies. For decades, despite invitations and pressures to take on more prestigious tasks, Ugonia dedicated himself to depicting almost exclusively the places and naturalistic scenarios of Brisighella<\/strong>: depriving them of particular time, making them absolute and making them become icons of twentieth-century art, not just in Italy, between unparalleled technical perfection and high poetic feeling. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
